A Few Tips For A Healthy Holiday

By:

Being healthy while on holiday and savouring the very limited time you have while you are away is vitally important. Depending upon where you decide to go to on holiday you will need to consider your vaccinations.

Flu is one of the biggest killers and its recommended to get this vaccination regardless of your intended destination, your GP or doctor will be able to give you more information as to whether you might need this jab.

The flu jab takes two weeks to be come effective therefore if you will need to have this jab in advance of your holiday as to avoid any side effects such as nausea and vomiting.

If you are planning to visit any countries on the World Health Organisations risk list you should consult your doctor in plenty of time to discuss additional vaccinations such as anti - malarial which is very common in most parts of Africa, south America and South Asia.

Once you have taken these precautions you should in theory be protected until at least after your holiday. When flying on an aircraft quite often we overlook the fact that we don't move our limbs very often especially our legs which can cause problems in people of all ages but more at risk are the elderly.

The lack of regular exercise and cramped conditions of air travel can lead to blood clots and other related conditions which can be fatal and should be treated very seriously.

Deep Vain Thrombosis has varying levels of seriousness and is caused by the same conditions. Remedying these situations there are several things that a traveller can do:

- Wear long tight socks, most long haul flight providers will supply these as you are at higher risk when exposed for longer periods of time.

- Wear clothes which you are comfortable in which don't restrict your body. A set of discrete pyjamas or a track suit bottoms should work nicely.

-Exercise your legs, ankles and toes. Even if your just tensing and releasing your muscles this simple act will make the blood circulate around your limbs much better.

-Take a walk, from time to time take a short walk around the cabin and perform some stretches the type you might do if going for a run. It will make you feel better too.

-Don't sit still, wiggle, adjust your seat and position from time to time but ensure that you are comfortable.

-Try not to get dehydrated and avoid alcohol. Above all don't worry, often people will spend there time on a plane thinking about what could happen, what they might catch.

Just make sure you visit your doctor or GP for any medical advice. Do this before and after your trip if you have any concerns.
