A Few Surgical Breast Augmentation Facts

By:

All over the world women live under society's pressure to meet a breast standard. Unfortunately this standard is typically set by media avenues like magazines, television, movies, billboards. It sure isn't helpful when icons and idols in Hollywood and the music scene participate in this fashion. Insecurity and low self-esteem are issues resulting from this infatuation with breast size. This is nothing new to womankind and according to some researchers feel that women have had to deal with this for millennia. However, the surgical breast augmentation of our day is lot different than padding a bra.

As far as we know according to different resources and recorded history it has been well over a hundred years since a woman first tried to improve the breasts that they were born with. I am not sure why they did it or where but I'm sure that the attention they got from the men made the inconvenience worth it. To our knowledge the first attempts that women made to increase the appearance of their breasts was to wear padded clothing. This of course only worked until the clothing came off and the fraud was discovered. At least the extra clothing was safe and was not going to pose any health risks or future complications like those that have occurred since the inception of the breast implant.

In 1895 the first implant was performed. As for the substances that were used, you will find that it left a lot to be desired. There were numerous complications and even loss of life in the pursuit of a more perfect chest. It wasn't until 1961 that silicone implants were developed. It was in 1964 that saline implants became available. In the past there were a variety of substances used in the implant but the most common today are saline and silicone implants. Many complications resulted from pain, leaking causing many internal problems and the need for additional surgical procedures.

Where you familiar with the fact that the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has made the statement that surgical breast augmentation is one of the most common kinds of surgery that is being performed on request? In 2006 there were approximately 329,000 breast augmentation and that number has remained consistent the past few years. As of 2010 it is estimated that there are about 7,000,000 women in the United States with breast implants.

The actual surgical procedure itself only take an hour or two to complete. Visits that take place with patient and surgeon are normally to help determine what type of procedure would be the best for the patient. There are some differences in breast implants and include what kind of implant will be used, the kind of incision that will be made during surgery and where that incision will be made. Also discussed is where the placement of the actual implant will be made. Remember that these factors will have an influence on the end result of the breast appearance.

In a typical scenario a patient should be able to get back into life's routine within a week after surgery. You will want to keep in mind that it really depends on what it is that you are doing and the level of activity that is needed. You will want to keep in mind that the scar will most likely be visible six weeks or even a few months. The scars will fade after some time.

Complications are most common within the first 3 years of the surgical breast augmentation and include pain, implant rupturing and further surgical procedures being needed to correct something. Despite the pressures of society there are woman that refuse surgery and this has spawned the search for substances that can increase breast size, which is covered in other articles that I have written.
