A Few Invicta Watches That Can Make Your Wardrobe Pop

Switzerland has been the unofficial capital of horology for centuries. Ever since the first watchmakers guild was established there in 1601, the country has been a magnet ambitious artisans. Geneva was so overcrowded with them that it was nicknamed a city of watchmakers in the seventeenth century. Competition was so fierce that many talented horologists were forced to relocate to towns in the Jura Mountains. One of the most popular destinations for watchmakers was the village of La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Founded in the 17th century, the former hamlet is now the third largest city in Romandie, the French-speaking section of Switzerland. Its growth and its wealth are inextricably tied to the watch industry.

More than three and a half centuries after they started arriving, watch manufacturers now employ most of the local residents. There are over a dozen world-famous watch companies in this quiet town with a population of less than 38,000 people.

The Invicta Watch Group

In a recent article on the watch industry in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the author listed a litany of famous names. There was Cartier, Louis Vuitton, TAG Heuer, Movado, British Masters, and Juvenia. And then when he came to the end, the writer employed the familiar phrase and others. Invicta is one of those others, which means that they are not quite as popular or as well known as the aforementioned.

But they have been around for longer, and, according to most watch enthusiasts, they make better products.

The Invicta Watch Company was founded by Raphael Picard in 1837. Before this time, watches were considered luxury items. Only well-heeled men could afford the average timepiece. But Picard wanted to change all that. He was one of the first watchmakers to design pocket watches for the common man. It wasnt an easy task.

At the time, all watches were made by hand. Horologists spent decades acquiring and perfecting the skills they needed to ply their trade. And they didnt work cheap. The only answer for Invicta, which means invincible in Vu
lgar Latin, was to increase sales volume. In other words, they had to sell a lot of watches because the profit margins were razor thin. Though they never made much money, Invicta did produce some of the worlds finest watches. They were widely known and well respected throughout Europe. But they never made much noise in America.

Like many of the top watchmakers of Europe, Invicta was affected by the Quartz Revolution of the nineteen seventies. Cheap, machine-made timepieces powered by digital technology put most of the old guard out of business. Invicta was crafty and stubborn enough to survive the initial wave and carry on for about a decade before companies like Timex and Casio took over the industry. Fortunately, that is not the end of our story.

More than a decade after they shipped their last watch, relatives of Raphael Picard were contacted by an investment firm in Florida. Though they were not Swiss, the new owners promised to follow the founding principles. For one thing, they agreed to hire real watchmakers, rather than relying on machines. Let us take a moment to review a few of their most popular models.

Pro Diver Collection

Invicta is very good at designing dressy watches that have a sporty feel, and the Pro Diver Collection is no exception. Not only are the watches in this collection good diving watches with a water resistance of up to 200 meters (660 feet), they are also powered by automatic movement. That means that they do not require batteries or even winding. The 8926 is a bold and distinctive timepiece with a black watch dial and luminous white hour hands. The Arabic numerals and
hour markers are also white and there is even a date window beside the 3 oclock hour marker.

6621 II Collection

Chronographs are awfully busy watches. In addition to their regular timekeeping duties, they also offer stopwatch functions.

The 6621 is a tough, durable timepiece with a stainless steel watch case and a handsome silver-tone bracelet. The cobalt blue subdials measure 30-minute increments, and there is even a calendar window by the four oclock hour marker. The watch is water resistant up to 330 feet (100 meters).

1206 II Collection

As one of the companys most active and attractive watches, the 1206 has a lot going on. The three subdials track the seconds, minutes, and hours with chronograph functions. The watch case and the watchband are silver-tone stainless steel. The watch dial is rose gold-tone, as are the hour hands and hour markers. It can be safely submerged in up to 330 feet (100 meters) of water.
The 1206 can go from the boardroom to the beach without missing a beat.

Invicta offers a full line of finely-crafted wristwatches for fashion-conscious consumers. Consider these stand out models when choosing your next watch.
