A Digital Cage Match: Choosing Wi-fi Or Wimax

By:

Sometimes the choices in technology are obvious; there are devices that are definitely far too outdated or that simply don't match up with particular users. But when it comes to the nuts and bolts of how people stay in touch with the world wide web, the options can change in different ways. And for those who are unaware that they actually have multiple choices out there, sometimes things get a little bit overwhelming. After all, it's frustrating to assume that wireless internet is the only possible way to stay in touch while on the go, just like it was once frustrating for those who knew the wonders of Wi-Fi to see friends who still insisted on using ethernet and being stuck at a desk.

For those who are deciding on what they want their web connection to do for them, it makes sense to check out exactly how it is that the various options these days function. And while it's true that ethernet and other methods of staying sedentary while online are still upgrading and improving, anyone who is interested in actually being able to move around should be focused on the fact that there are really just two choices out there: WiMax and Wi-Fi.

To determine which one works best, it makes the most sense for consumers to pit them against one another, making it easier to look closely at exactly which choice is the smart one. Here are some of the categories that should be examined when deciding on the superior method for powering one's laptop.

-Time spent remembering passwords or asking for them in public places. Wireless internet users have to remember passwords, have to store them in keychains, and have to constantly bother the waitstaff at local spots to figure out exactly how they can get online. Not very convenient!

-Strength of signal. Sure, Wi-Fi can deliver when one is right next to the router or when no one else is sharing a network. But those are ideal conditions that only really work for tiny apartments and password-protected connections. It makes sense to see that something national and secure is definitely a better way to move around somewhere other than one's own home.

-Overall convenience and stress factors. WiMax might be overwhelming for someone who isn't interested in being able to embrace the next step forward in technology, but for anyone who is interested in simply having to turn a computer on for it to connect to the net, no matter where that computer or computer user might be, it's definitely the superior option out there.

-Work done on the go, but done right. No one wants to spend time while trying to accomplish tasks for work from a distant locale stressing out about technology. And while it might seem as though connecting to any old network is going to be sufficient, the fact of the matter is that it often takes a bit more than just knowing that a hotel offers some form of Wi-Fi. That's why something as stable as WiMax gets the job done far quicker and in a more reliable way.
