Much to the criticism of my peers, I had never been a person to plan ahead. Career, money, relationships, are all something which I generally left to chance. In all honesty it wasnt only friends and family that suggested I needed to think ahead more, I also felt a little guilty about it myself. I felt like I wasnt a responsible citizen by just leaving my future in the hands of fate. However after I met Christian, things changed.
Christian was and still is the love of my life. I met him shortly before Christmas almost eleven years ago. He is German and was on a business trip when we met. We met in a hotel bar and after a few dates, soon became inseparable. He lived in Munich and I lived in London. Not ideal, but we managed a long distance relationship very well. Flights are so cheap these days that it wasnt really a challenge, plus I enjoyed spending time with him so it was worth it.
After three blissful years together we had put together a plan for our future. The first plan I had ever had in my life, and it was very scary make such a commitment. We intended to get married and I would re-locate to Munich with regular trips back to the UK. We had a very detailed plan and had even enquired about
international moving prices for my belongings. For once I was starting to feel responsible and more forward thinking.
Unfortunately, three months before my wedding and the big move to Deutschland, my father passed away suddenly. As an only child I didnt feel that I could leave my mother on her own and decided to stay in the UK. We still got married but Christian relocated to London.
Since this happened I have decided to return to leaving my life to fate. I am a little more careful about money for the future but otherwise I am just living each day as it comes and enjoying every minute. Plans dont always go to plan so why worry about whats going to happen?
