If you are on the HCG diet program, you have to adhere to a very stringent diet over a course of 42 days. The diet is comprised of two phases. For the first 21 days you need to maintain a calorie limit of 500 calories a day. During the second phase this restriction is increased slightly to 1000 calories a day. A daily dose of the synthesized version of the hormone called Sublingual HCG is administered to dieters intravenously through injections or orally using HCG drops.
The HCG Diet in a Nutshell
So how does it work? The Human Chorionic Gonadotropin hormone or HCG is a naturally occurring hormone that is produced in the placenta of pregnant women. When this hormone is injected into an obese individual, it sends signals to the brain which in turn alters the metabolism of the individuals body by burning up all the accumulated fat into energy. The potent combination of the HCG hormone along with the calorie restriction imposed on the dieter makes him start losing weight drastically.
In order for the HCG diet to work effectively it is important to remain steadfast to the diet for a period of 42 days. A lot of people are confused about what to eat and what to avoid during the HCG diet program so that they do not exceed the calorie restriction.
