Having a baby is one of the most incredible feelings that any guy will ever go through, and there are so many wondrous and joyful things that come along with this, that I can't even begin to mention all of them in this article. However, along with this comes a number of other less than pleasant things, such as dealing with a crying baby, who whines no matter what you do, and of course the dreaded dirty diapers. This was something that I dreaded dealing with, but there was no way I was going to let this responsibility fall to my wife, so it was something I had to learn to do once my daughter was born.

The first thing you're going to have to realize whenever you are the father of a newborn, is that you will have to get a good look at the bowel movement, because it is extremely important to mark down the various colors and textures. This is basically going to help you chart how healthy your baby is, and how well he or she is doing. While it sounds like it is quite disgusting, it is definitely something you get used to, and if your wife is breast-feeding, it really isn't that bad as the smell is virtually nonexistent. It ends up becoming something that you no longer think about, and you don't really even notice anymore. You even will end up finding yourself talking about bowel movements with your wife, and it basically becomes routine. Of course the biggest step is also learning how to properly change a diaper as well.

The easiest part of changing the diaper is taking it off, and then you want to fold it up onto the clean side and put it under your little one's bottom, so that they do not get any mess on the underlay padding. Next you want to use some wipes to clean them, paying particular attention to the private area and clean it as thoroughly as possible. If you have a daughter, be sure to always wipe down, so you not spread any infection to her vagina. Then you want to rub either Vaseline or an anti-diaper rash cream on your baby. Then simply put the diaper on, making sure that it is tight and secure, and that it is fitted snuggly around your baby's legs. After that you want to record the color of the bowel movement on a sheet of paper, and whether there was any urine or not. This is extremely important, and allows you to track how well your baby's digestive system is doing.
