A Community Spirit On The Sunshine Coast

A time of celebration, Australia Day will find many to be picnicking and partying to celebrate the fantastic anniversary in Australia. But some of those on the Sunshine Coast will be doing rallys to offer support for their Queensland neighbors who have been impacted by the recent flooding there. The areas which are most affected are in the southeast part including Dalby, TooWoomba, Brisbane, and Lockyer Valley.

There is a seven year old boy who is local and he is asking for people to make donations to the people who have lost a lot due to the floods, instead of bringing him birthday presents at his party next month. There are many local people who think this is a good thing, and they want to help their neighbors to get through this. There has been tremendous press coverage about the floods, and since it's Australia Day, it is a great time to get some more support for the people who need it.

There has been much support rallied from the Sunshine Coast residents for their neighbors, donating money but also donating their time and services to assist wherever they can be helpful. There has been applause from the Mayor Bob Abbot for these residents who have helped in this manner, saying this is showing the community spirit alive and well in Queensland. It also assures the people who live here that are in need that the council is doing everything it can to provide assistance for everyone who has been affected by the natural disaster.

Two of the main focuses of relief efforts are in the areas of food supplies and keeping commerce going as these two things alone can help out these ravaged areas a lot. The Sunshine Coast is also being monitored and if there are any residents in this region that are in need of assistance they are urged to contact the council for help. A Queensland floods website has also been established and many in the area are offering not only aid to victims on this website but also are offering those in need a place to stay. There are even offers for home cooked gluten free meals on this site.

The Australian people are well known for the aid they provide to all areas when there is need, but now is time for them to step up to help their own citizens. And they are doing exactly that, so along with the emergency crews and government aid the citizens here are going to be able to come out of this disaster in a fantastic way.
