When we were kids, the majority of us were told by our parents to study hard so we can get a high paying job later on. It is indeed a sad thing that a majority of us still have the mentality of a real job or a day job as the only means to make money. The money that you make in a job is just enough for your daily expenses, and if you do have a high paying job, it also means that eventually, you will have to live with the level of the salary that you receive. Having a job is just like surviving
Working from 9-5 or even more obviously shows that you are just surviving. Most of the employees who work on a routine schedule are afraid to miss a few hours because of a possible salary deduction. To me, that implies imprisonment. That is obviously one habit that gives one away as working in order to survive.

You may not be broke but the slightest rift will make you one
Most employees do not have financial security at all. The slightest blow to their financial foundation can trigger tremors. This is true especially with the lower middles class. Although skills in managing ones finances is a very huge contributor to being just over broke, the kind of job and the job mentality that you have will always have the last say. There are middle-waged earners who are not easily swayed by problems when it comes to their finances and yet there are also those who earn double what the middle-wage earners earn and still are having problems with a slight change in your budget.
High-paying jobs an exception to the clich
Not all jobs affirm to the just over broke thingy involving work. There are those that can actually make you rich. As an entrepreneur and someone that belongs to the business sector, I think that this clich came from the ultra rich. In the United States, being a surgeon is the top paid job. However, if you are one of those surgeons that receives the highest salary, you are still nothing compared to the top businessmen.
The job-just over broke clich is true but it is definitely not applicable to all. However, since a huge percentage of individuals belong to that clich, it is therefore safe to stereotype them as such.
