A Civilian Military Attorney Aggressively Fights For The Rights Of Service Members

By:

Members of the military who are charged with an offense such as DUI, sexual assault, drugs, desertion, fraud or larceny, violent crime, or any of a number of other offenses find themselves in very deep trouble whether they are guilty of the charge or innocent. With consequences often far more severe than civilian court penalties and a powerful prosecution system with unlimited resources determined to demonstrate the defendant's guilt, it is imperative to a military defendant's future to have the best legal representation available.

Unlike civilian court which requires proof of financial need before a pro bono defense attorney is appointed, military members are appointed a free defense attorney regardless of their means and ability to pay. This appointed attorney may be dedicated, determined, and experienced enough to provide an excellent defense. The more likely scenario however is that the appointed attorney has little or no experience in contested trials, little training in interrogation techniques, and few resources as compared to the JAG teams of attorneys, investigators, and military police whose focus is on a conviction.

Though hiring a civilian attorney who specializes in military law can be expensive, the consequences for not having this representation can be much more costly and with lifelong repercussions, making the attorney's fees pale in comparison. The full weight of the U.S. government is against the military defendant with the consequences of the defendant of losing at trial or at a board including the loss of the current job, losing out on future jobs, loss of retirement, loss of military housing benefits and medical benefits, and potentially much more such as prison time. Once it's done, there is rarely anything that can be done to repair a record after a military conviction or OTH (Other Than Honorable) separation.

If you are in the military and facing charges, you need the representation of an independent military lawyer who understands the armed forces legal system and Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). A civilian military attorney with JAG experience has the knowledge, experience, and freedom to skillfully advocate on your behalf. Though appointed attorneys will try to do their best to defend clients, there is significant political pressure that can affect their careers if they fight too aggressively. A civilian military attorney has no such fear or limitation and will fight to protect your rights and help even the playing field. Never underestimate the power of the forces that are working against you. Get the aggressive advocate you need as quickly as possible to protect your future.
