Located on a high plateau in the Andes mountains, Bogota is an ever growing city with incredible sights and views. The western border of the city is the Bogota River and from this river you can see tributary rivers with small villages to the awe inspiring Tequendama Falls. The falls dry up and disappear during December, but the rest of the year the water powers through a narrow 60 foot gap.

On the east is the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes and if you continue going east, you will discover the Chingaza National Park. To the south is the Sumapaz Paramo. This area is considered sacred to the aboriginal people, it has a large amount of biodiversity and many consider it to be the largest paramo ecosystem in the world. The Sumapaz Paramo was turned into a national park in 1977, partly for the diversity but also because of it being the main source of water for the city. Bogota also heads north all the way to the towns of Chia and Sopo.

While temperatures are fairly consistent throughout the year in Bogota, the weather can change quickly and without warning. So bring an umbrella with you because you will never know if or when you may need it. The climate itself is fairly mild being a subtropical highland climate, average temperatures are around 57 degrees F. Evenings can get a bit chilly due to the mild winds present year round.

Transportation in Bogota is primarily buses. You can catch a bus almost everywhere in town and can even take trips to neighboring cities using buses. Currently buses can be crowded so the city is planning on adding the Bogota Metro, which is expected to be complete in 2015. For individuals not wanting to feel the crowd of a bus, consider taking a bike ride through the city instead. Bogota boasts one of the most comprehensive and extensive bike path networks in the world. These paths connect to many areas of the city and are continually being extended for greater ease of use. Bicycle parking is available at many places along the routes and also connects to busing as well.

From sports to theater to art and everything in between if you can think of it Bogota will probably have it. The city was even awarded the title of Cultural Capital of Ibero-America in 2007 by the UCCI, becoming the only city to receive this title twice.

Shopping malls are also easily found including the Centro Mayor which is the largest mall in the country and once done shopping check out some of the traditional food and drink found throughout the city like Ajiaco a delicious soup or canelazo a hot drink perfect for cooler days. No matter what you see or do Bogota truly has it all.
