It is also known as
tablet computer or slate pc. In general, it is a light weight pc in a tablet size with hardware built-in allowing internet connection. It is targeted as a portable internet device that you can bring it everywhere and use it anytime. With the apps, we can use it for nearly any aspect of our daily lives. For example, we can find the nearest restaurant for dining by some apps making use of the GPS function. We can keep in touch with our friends with the facebook app. We can watch videos in youtube. We can manage our lives with some apps and even edit our work documents.
The concept of the tablet pc was announced by Microsoft in 2000. However, the concept was not popular until Apple launched the ipad in April 2010. Its sales hit 3 million pieces in 80 days!
Tablet pc mainly uses touchscreen as the input. This is more user-friendly and people are addicted to its new navigation experience control all the stuff with a finger. We can even resize the picture with two fingers in some of the tablet pc. This whole new experience is one of the magic that build up its fans so rapidly. And the learning curve for this new type of device is the shortest. It is so easy-to-use.
The weight of a
tablet pc is also another attraction. It is even lighter than a netbook which was popular for a year before the ipad. Netbook was designed for trading off some of the cpu and hardwares power and in turn trimming down the size and weight to increase the mobility. However with the presence of the tablet pc, it nearly cracked down the netbook market. In terms of lightweight, the tablet pc is the best so far. You can easily take it to anywhere and use it any time. In the market, currently the lightest is the Viewsonic viewpad 7, its size is 375g. For ipad, it is 680g and the heaviest
table PC so far is the ExoPC Slate which is 950g
Internet enabled. Our lives now cannot be separated with the internet. It is why tablet pc is so attractive because it allows us to get connected in everywhere. Some of the tablet pc built-in with wifi and we can connect to the net via hotspots. Some of the tablet pc even can connect to the web using 3G mobile network. Comparing with smartphone, the size of the screen gives us better on-the-go browsing experience. Currently, the screen size of the tablet pc is around 7 inch to 10 inch.
It is a device that make a balance between weight, performance and user experience. We would like to give you a suggestion, if you would like to further increase its performance, you can use some remote access software (e.g. RealVNC) to manipulate the PC at your home or in your office. In this way, you dont have to bring a heavy notebook but just a light weight cheap tablet pc using the cpu power of the PC at home!
