A Brief History Of Breast Enlargement Surgery And Breast Implants

By:

The earliest recorded history of breast enlargement was performed in 1890--using paraffin injections. In spite of infections and lump formations, this unsightly failure persisted until the late 1920s. Prior to the development of successful implants everything was injected into a womans bosom. Body fat, ivory, rubber, vinyl sponges, even minute glass balls took their turns invading and infecting the ladies, some proving fatal.

After years of trial and error experimenting, the medical marvels were sure they had it when silicone first came out. In the post World War II years, along with the explosion of the plastics industry, silicone was invented. Japanese prostitutes, who werent heavily endowed in that area to begin with, and eager to please the homesick GIs, had themselves overly-injected with this new plastic only to have it later infuse with their body tissues.

Then someone got the bright idea of putting things in a container first, and then with some minor surgery, into the breast, only to be greatly disappointed once more. This time in 1988, at the great expense of a multi-billion dollar class action lawsuit against Dow Corning, the makers of these silicone enhancements that had been surgically implanted in the bodies of 170,000 trusting women.

Sure now that the breast augmentation implants had promise, the one material found to be the safest and most compatible for use within the human body was saline. Good old salt water, being more natural, using the exact same saline as IV infusions and consistent and the saline content already in the body, has become todays most desirable infiltrate.

Implants come in all shapes and sizes. Round being the most popular shape because they can accommodate to most body types and produce a more natural appearance. Shaped breast implants are designed to reflect the slope of the chest and come in different styles for various degrees of perkiness or projection in the breast profile.

Its an important decision, so you should take as much time choosing your implants as you do choosing a wedding gown. The difference is, one you wear for a day, and hopefully, the other you wear for a lifetime.
