A Brief Explanation Of Nlp

By:

NLP is a phrase that gets thrown around on internet forums quite a bit, but it's tends to be something that never really gets explained in any of the posts; when I was coming across the phrase quite a lot I decided to do a little research and find out exactly what it was.

NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming is, in a nutshell, a rapid form of psychological therapy. Founded in the 1970's by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, Neuro Linguistic Programming is mostly concerned with the relationship between positive behavioural patterns and the underlying thought processes that accompany them, thus assisting the individual in altering these patterns and thereby instilling positive behavioural patterns in their day to day life.

In laymen's terms, this means that an NLP practitioner would be able to help an individual with many of the common afflictions which psychiatrists typically encounter such as phobias, habit disorders and neuroses in a far quicker way than traditional psychotherapy can, and also offers help for a range of learned disorders as well. Many people have also found that they can get help with a range of acquired disorders as well such as low self confidence and emphasises health and well being and can assist people both personally and professionally.

The name comes from the combination that Bandler and Grinder believed was connected and was thus key to instilling new, positive behavioural patterns: neurological processes (Neuro), Language (Linguistic) and learned behaviours (Programming). By using these methods to associate with the new desired process, a person's behaviour can be altered, allowing them to achieve specific goals in their life.

NLP has become popular in the therapy and self help fields, to the point where many hypnotherapists and counsellors are trained in it, meaning that it is possible to have access to Neuro Linguistic Programming wherever you are in the country and it is also available in a range of different formats from visiting a practitioner to audio books which, meaning that an individual can be working through it while on the way to work or when relaxing at home.

Having researched it a little, Neuro Linguistic Programming certainly seems interesting and it's encouraged me to do some more looking into it, to the point that I am currently considering visiting a practitioner in the near future, possibly with a couple of work colleagues to help us become better at our jobs.
