A Breath Of Fresh Air In Barcelona

By:

Ah, Barcelona! It is the capital, not to mention the most populous city, in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia. With so many people, so many things to do and so many places to go to, it can quickly become tiring just touring the city as a tourist. Peace and quiet must somehow be found within the hustle and bustle of the city, of which the many parks are the best places to go to.

And, boy, are there many parks in Barcelona. Digging into statistics about the city, you will quickly know that that the city has 68 municipal parks - 45 urban parks, 12 historic parks, 6 forest parks and 5 botanical parks, if we must be exact about it. With sizes ranging from small parks to large recreation parks, tourists and residents alike have plenty of places to breathe fresh air, surround oneself with greenery and just enjoy the sunny weather for which Barcelona is known for.

Let's start our exploration of the parks of Barcelona with its largest - the sprawling 203-hectare Montjuic located on a mountain whose name translates to Hill of the Jews. Inside, well-kept parks and gardens can be found with various possible activities waiting to be done. Think cycling around, browsing through the Olympic Museum, and watching with awe the magical water show of the aptly-named Font Magica at night.

Within Montjuic, the Jardi Botanic de Barcelona provides for a green sanctuary with the plants from various parts of the world being grouped according to their region of origin. Tourists are always surprised at its history with the Botanical gardens being the site of a former trash dump but one would not know it from the looks of the park. This just goes to show that Barcelonans are one of the more ingenious people in Spain and in the world.

Then move on to the Parc de la Ciutadella, which just so happens to be one of the city's most popular parks and yet overcrowding is never a problem here. Stop by the small lake and the beautiful fountain for a bit of water therapy, in a manner of speaking, and then hop on to the Barcelona zoo to meet the other lovable residents of Barcelona.

For those interested in seeing the great Gaudi's work, head on to the Parc Guell situated just 4 kilometers form the equally famous Placa de Catalunya. As Gaudi envisioned the place, this garden complex is filled with extravagant mosaic tiling, fascinating walkways and the atmosphere of a rural park. It's a wonderful place to visit if you want awe for man's work combined with reverence for nature within the same place.

To name a few more parks in Barcelona, ask around for the Parc de Collserola, the Parc de l'Oreneta and the Parc del Laberint with each one offering unique attractions. We suggest booking a holiday apartment near these parks so as to be able to enjoy them after a hard day of leisure in Barcelona. Be sure to log online and book your reservations in the most convenient way possible.
