There is nothing more frustrating than an incomplete or a missing piece of equipment needed while on building your project. You cannot just use anything that is lying around for your convenience. You have to choose what you think is the best method for joining or fastening pieces of wood together, you must consider the requirements of strength and the quality of the joint for each fastener. You have to make a lay out plan for the things needed for your construction project including of course includes a timber bolt.

Timber bolts can also be called as a fender head, a safety head, economy, a dome head and a mushroom head bolt. These bolts are used for both wood applications and marine applications as well. The timber bolts can be a galvanized drop forge which are sometimes called dome head or mushroom head bolts because they treat wood due to a heavier galvanization that is applied to this bolts. The underside of the rounded head bolt has four fins or a nub that prevents the bolts from turning on the timber as the nuts is being installed. It pulls itself into the wood as the nut is being tightened around. Some manufacturers have only two nubs or fins on this type of bolts.

Timber bolts is used for many application such as the machine bolt wherein its oversized head does not need a washer for the bolt end head. Also galvanize timber bolts is specifically designed in the protection of any structure from all the elements of corrosion and rust. Some bolts have rings under each head that are spaced by 1/4 inch apart to prevent water from entering the hole made by the bolt. Also the hot dipped galvanized bolts is more resistant to corrosion than the zinc plated this is because of the thickness of the coating that has been galvanized. But this type of bolts is compatible only with the galvanized nuts; it can also be use outdoors a well as in coastal areas. Timber bolts are strong and sturdy hardware; it is toughened up to withstand all the elements that produce rust and corrosion. It can stand through time with salt water.

There are several available types of timber bolt material and they are:
*Zinc plated steel - the steel is plated with zinc that has moderate protection from rust.
*Grade 5 Chrome - grade 5 chrome fastener that has a mirror like finishing giving a distinct look for all types of application.
*Steel grade 5 - made from carbon steel and is use in all automotive applications where higher strength is needed.
*Silicon Bronze - this has an alloy of copper with corrosion resistance and great strength than brass. This is one of the most common use for restoration and of building with wood.
