A Boiler And How It Works

By:

A boiler is an enclosed tank that heats up water or some other type of liquid and the vapor from the heated liquid then travels through pipes to provide heat for the home or the water in the home or both. The boilers are usually made of steel, copper or brass. A boiler can use a number of different combustion materials. It can use either wood, coal, oil or natural gas. The boiler heats up and circulates either hot water or the steam from the water. There is a separate container that is attached to the boiler that is used as the burner.

There are two types of boilers. One type is the fire-tube boiler. In this kind of boiler the water is heated by the tubes that run throughout the water. When the boiler is ignited these tubes heat up and in turn heat the water that surrounds them. This is the most popular type of boiler that is used in heating homes. The other type of boiler is the water-tube boiler. In this type of boiler the water travels through a series of tubes that is surrounded by the heat from the fuel and this is how the water is heated. This type of boiler is not commonly used. The water-tube boiler is best when there is a large amount of steam and heat needed. The steam from the boilers is what is used in the heating of homes. Boiler installation should be done by a professional to be sure it is installed correctly.

Once the boiler installation is complete then the heat and water can be added to run the boiler. When the boiler creates the steam it is pushed throughout the home and heat is released from radiators, floor vents or pipes running through the house. For safety purposes the boiler needs to be turned on and off periodically to prevent the steam inside the boiler to build up excess pressure. The excess build up of pressure inside the boiler will prevent the home from heating properly and could be a hazard.

Boilers are not only used to heat the home but they can also be used to heat water that is used in the home. The boilers will help save money on heating cost and will also help with the amount that is spent on electric bills for the home. A professional needs to be consulted before making a decision on the type of boiler to use and a professional should be used for the boiler installation.
