A Better Understanding Of The Medical Model

By:

Since the beginning of civilized medical professions, professionals have been under constant pressure to successfully treat the health issues of their patients. After all the facts have been gathered, they reveal that the patient is really seeking a medical miracle for issues that are the end result of years upon years of self abuse and neglect that leave modern medicine and doctors at a loss for adequate treatments or cures.

However, with the constant medical breakthroughs that happen everyday, many of these health issues will find hope in the form of medications that will temporarily address the symptoms, but will not be as effective if the patient is resistant to lifestyle changes and cooperation. This makes effective real long term improvements almost non existent. Simply put, fixing a lifetime worth of damage and neglect will take more than a quick repair job.

Other very intrusive and traumatic procedures include surgeries that often are done as a last resort effort to extend the life of the patient by removing the diseased organ or part of the body out of the body. It is possible to live a normal life with only one kidney or lung, but the body does notice and miss the removed organ and it does effect the overall function of the body. Insisting or believing that the removal of any body parts have no real negative effect on the body regardless of how insignificant they might appear to be is not being too well informed.

Honestly, there is also a thought process that says if something doesn't function properly that it should be pulled from the body and in the case of non-functional organs like the tonsils or appendix many doctors feel if they cause an individual any problems at all that they should be very simply removed. Of course, since these organs are essential organs of immunity if nothing else serious consideration should be given to whether or not even these minimal organs should be removed except in the most horrific of circumstances.

This all too common medical model is flawed from the start and leaves medical professional little options to choose from and the results less promising for the individual patients. It is common for the individual to have a problem admitting that much of their health issues are directly related to their personal attitudes toward their own health and the silver bullet modern medical quick fix expectations they have placed on doctors and modern medicine. Nothing except death is going to be very effective or successful for any patient, until the individual attitude toward better health choices and changes are put into daily practice, thus allowing the doctors to have more options available to turn the tide of the destructive lifestyles and attitudes.
