IPv4, which is commonly known as internet protocol version 4 is the forth edition that was designed for identifying the devices that are on the network. Therefore, they switched from IPv 4 to IPv6.

The demand for advanced internet Protocol Version led to the development of IPv6. This version is also known as IPng. According to the experts, this is a new generation internet protocol version. This version helps the internet to grow in terms of the number of hosts connected as well as amount of transmitted data. The version is also capable of handling more IP addresses when compared to other versions available in the market today. The latest version consists of one hundred and twenty eight bits that is equal to 2^128. It is also capable of supporting a larger number of machines when compared to other versions. The addresses of IPv6 are written in the form of hexadecimals. It is separated by the colons for make them the more human readable.

When it comes to IPv 4 and IPv6, one will be able to find numerous differences. For instance, in the IPv4 version, the addresses are thirty-two bits, which means they are four bytes in length. This version uses the address (A) resource records for hosting map in the DNS. The 4 version also uses the pointer (PTR) in IN-ADDR.ARPA DNS domain for mapping the addresses to the host names. On the other hand, IPV6 version is quite different and advanced. The latest version is also able to meet all the requirements of the internet.
