9 Things You Don't Know About Spring Cleaning

By:

Yes, its finally spring! Are you dying to rearrange your closets, reduce the clutter, and get that dirty smell of winter out of your house? I know how you feel. Yet it's not easy. Especially if you have a long list of things to get to that you put off when snow covered the ground!

Assuming you're not sure how to get this all done these nine suggestions will solve your problems and make spring cleaning a breeze.

Splatters of food make your microwave look and sometimes smell bad. Wondering how to deodorize it? Lemon is the answer. Boiling lemon slices in a couple of cups of water in your microwave will give you a freshly fragrant microwave fast.

Always envied the clean drapes at your friend's house? All you need to do is vacuum those pleats every 6 months and take them to your friendly dry cleaner every two or three years for a brighter look.

Has one of the kids used your walls to showcase hidden talent? Never mind. Just lightly spray on WD-40 and wipe down with a damp sponge. This will remove crayon marks and other lingering stains too.

Odors in the garbage disposal could be caused by left over hunks of food or veggies. Feel around inside and see if you grab anything. Then take some lemon peels and run the disposal with them to freshen it up.

To remove the dirt from cloth or plastic shades hit them with a shot from your hand held shower head to blast the dust away. Then let them drip dry in the tub.

Your washer and dryer require a good cleaning cycle themselves. For the washer add two quarts of white vinegar then let it run through the entire wash cycle to eliminate any nasty soap scum that's built up. Next hit the dryer's lint filter with a used dryer sheet followed up with a separate washing using soap and water. To remove lint that's accumulated in the slot the filter fits into try your vacuum's upholstery attachment.

For pet hair clinging to the upholstery or wall hangings do this. Mix two ounces of liquid fabric softener with a cup and half or so of water and spray near the fabrics to eliminate the static cling. Doing so makes it easier to brush the hair off and vacuum it away.

Finally remember we all probably don't vacuum enough. Two or three times each week will keep the dirt from settling deep into carpet pile. Which makes it easier to keep your rugs looking new longer. And make multiple passes. I recommend 4 for moderate traffic areas and seven passes for high traffic zones.

Try these tips and your home will be just the way you wanted, shiny and ready for the new season.
