9 Parameters Of Transformer Oil Testing

Power Transformers and its needs: On daily basis lot of electricity has generated and the big issue is to store this electricity and distribute it as per the need. Power Transformers are created for the same. Transformer is a device which stores the electricity in it and transfer electricity energy from on circuit to another with transformers coil.

Transformer oil testing one of the major tests: There are some recommend tests for transformers. One of the essential test is Transformer oil testing. The oil testing done on the basis of different methods like IEC, ASTM, IS and other recognized transformer oils analytical procedure. There are 9 parameters in oil testing, these are:

Electric Strength (BDV)
Water Content (PPM)
Tan Delta
Resistivity
Acidity
Sludge
Flash point
Interfacial tension
Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA)

Transformer oil is highly refined oil which works as an insulator. There is a very high temperature in transformer and this oil helps the transformer to remain cool and help to avoid any fire situation. The oil remains stable in high temperature and having great property of electrical insulation.

The oil in transformer must be pure and should be test once in a year. The oil must be moisture free and there should not be any other impurity. The oil testing is also use to know the working condition of other parts of the Transformer. Electrical engineers take oil sample to the laboratory. This oil testing also indicates the other need of tests as per the requirement. Therefore the first stage of a transformer test is oil testing. We can take the example of medical checkup, in any kind of diseases doctors recommend you for blood test. In the same sense Oil testing recommend before any test to find the main problem.

As our body needs regular checkup to stay healthy, our transformers also needs regular test to work well.
