There are some important questions that you need to ask yourself as you think about starting up your own business. By thinking through some important details, you will find what you need to know before opening your doors. 1) What type of market or niche is there for your service or product? This is very important because too often, people start a business on a product or service that is unheard of and unwanted. 2) Do you have enough money? In order to start your business, you are going to need money and lots of it. If you have someone else helping you, you may have access to more money, but you may also have to pay it back. This means that you have a responsibility to guarantee that your business is going to succeed. Five years? Ten years? You can only make long-term plans by thinking through some tough issues.

6) Do you have a good location? It used to be that where your actual store or business was located was the cry of every business owner. Today, however, we have the internet, 800 numbers and credit cards. What does that mean to today's business owner? It means that you need to be available. You need to let people know where you are, how to reach you, how to buy your products on-line and where to view your products. People want to know the answers to these questions and others so use advertising to help give you the exposure you need.

7) Have you followed the rules for establishing your business? In other words, you have to make sure that your business is actually legal with a registered business name. If you are incorporating, you need to reserve a corporate name. Permits and licenses are necessary for some businesses. These things are not options; they are mandatory. Business insurance, health insurance and a sales tax number are other items you must look into before opening your business.

8) Are you ready to open? Make a checklist and stick to it. On Day #1, you need to know whose working, have all the necessary supplies, forms, order forms, and any other important details. Sure, you will forget something, but do everything you can do be ready. That first day of business, you will be excited, scared, nervous, worried and thrilled. It will be your dreams come true! It's important to keep a positive attitude, be prepared and always try to stay ahead of the game!
