8 Reasons Why Email Is Dying

By:

There is a phenomenon occurring within the world of modern technology. Email, as we know it, is dying and withering away. For years email has been the dominate form of communication on the internet. It was embraced by the common user, small companies and large corporations. At the time, email was the fastest form of online communication, but as internet technology has evolved, the use of email has slowed down considerably and is no longer the primary form of contacting online.

Several factors have contributed to this decline in the popularity of email. They range from basic email annoyances such as spamming which corroded the once clean and usable system, to the introduction of social networking sites that take a faster and more personal approach to online connection. Although the corporate world will always have a need to send files and messages through the common email form, for a while any. The common user, which makes up most of the online world, has become accustomed to a more lightweight and personal connection method. This method is without the cold and impersonal aspect of the email, as well as the problems that it has collected over the years. Here are 8 main reasons that this technology is failing to keep itself afloat in our high tech world.

1) Constantly changing e-mail addresses. People will quit jobs or decide to change their email address to elude spammers. It is then hard to find a home base to reach a contact with certainty. If there is no response it may be that they do not use that address anymore, but you do not know that for sure.

2) The Spamming Problem. We have all dealt with this. Often users will completely abandon their addresses because the spamming gets so out of hand that they do not want to fish through each mail item to see if it is legitimate.

3) Instant Messaging Ease. The younger generation seems to be embracing instant messaging as a means of communicating, preferring it to the slower and more tedious emailing process of getting a message to the end user.

4) Useless email filters. Most modern email systems should filter spam to a greater or lesser degree. Unfortunately, there are those who develop spamming tricks and work endlessly to bypass these filters, resulting in an unreliable filtration system that causes emails to get lost.

5) The empty box syndrome. Unlike the box filled with unwanted spam. This occurs when a user does not use his email, or rarely checks it. The sender is never sure if a message is being received. If it is, it often comes with a late response when the message is no longer relevant.

6) Facebook and Twitter. Social networking sites are growing fast. There are now more than 175 million Facebook users and Twitter is gaining momentum quickly. These are "real time" messaging systems that allow the sender absolute certainty that their communication was received.

7) Lack of Confidence. Again, many users of the current email system are never sure that the message is getting to the end user. There is no sure fire way to know if your message is getting where you want it to go. The real-time applications give the messenger certainty and confidence that they are getting heard.

8) Speed and more speed. As mentioned earlier, the speed factor seems to be the most important element to the user. Email is a slow process and many users are dropping their addresses all together and going with the faster, immediate response methods you have with social media. And some are only using email to send large files, but are not using it for simpler communication transactions that require a speedy response.

It seems that the once great email revolution is over and finished. She is being replaced with the next faster and more personable wave of communication. Email is unreliable and will need a serious overhaul or will decline rapidly to the point of non-use. As the user becomes accustomed to an easier and more efficient route, that is the one they will continue to take.
