For how many instances have you had to turn your house upside down just to find your car keys? Or found a thing that has been deemed lost for a period of time somewhere you least expect it? These things can all be associated to disarraythe one big enemy of all rooms, no matter how big or small. If you repeatedly find your possessions just lying around, you might want to make use of some extra storage space to help get rid of the mess.

Every time you think of storing, you probably think of large shelves, kids toy chests, and that bulky closet positioned at the end of your hallway. No wonder only a few people take the time to invest in good storage spaceits just not chic enough. But because of all the storage designs now available, there are so many unique ways to be organized without having to spend time worrying about these clashing with your house dcor. Here are seven extraordinary safekeeping concepts you may try for yourself.

1. Baskets. Although more popular with country-style homes, woven baskets have a warm, homey feel that will go well with any theme. Use them to store magazines, pens, jewelry, as well as other small items. In large, high-traffic spaces such as your living room, you can put a large basket or a couple of smaller ones on or around your table. If you are going to choose the latter, get baskets in different sizes and weaves to add a little more interest. For saving space, place your baskets on a wall rack or an end table.

2. Shelves and dividers. Room dividers are good for breaking up huge spaces, but they tend to take up a lot of spacespace that can be utilized for storage. If your room has to have a divider, try using a display rack or small bookshelf instead. This way, they will be used both as a dividing element and a storage space. Look for an open-backed shelf so that it will be presentable on either side, or get two slimmer shelves and put them back to back.

3. Linear racks. Wall storage is great for small spaces, and the stylish way to do it is by using linear storage racks. These racks are made up of a vertical trunk which has a couple of holders installed along it. This would be a wonderful way of organizing small things inside your bedroom, bathroom, or office. And due to the fact that its mounted on the wall, it takes up no floor space and will work well for tight spaces. You can even create your ownsimply polish an old wooden slab and nail on some L-shaped brackets on the front.

4. Niche displays. Dont have enough room for displaying your antiques collection? Try putting it on top of a shelf or cabinet. These spaces are often ignored and tend to be dark and dusty, but if utilized the right way, they can make great corner displays. The space is just right for those special keepsakes which you would otherwise put away in a box. Install an up-light or slide lights in order to add emphasis and draw attention to the display. Limit yourself to three pieces per display for playing up their value and form.

5. Nested trays. So youve got a huge basket for all your beauty products, but you still end up digging for your favorite perfume every morning? You can avoid this problem by keeping your storage small, or by dividing your containers into small compartments. Organize your toiletries in nested containers, with the most commonly used items in the biggest tray and the less important items in the smaller trays. This will provide you easier access to items you use everyday while keeping the rest within reach.

6. Recessed shelves. Wall mounting saves a lot of floor space, but due to the fact that the shelves jut out from the wall, they still add to that cramped feel common in little spaces. A wonderful alternative is creating your shelves inward, so the rims are on the same level as the rest of the walls. This works particularly well with corner bathroom sinks. The side walls have easy-to-reach storage space for towels, toiletries, and other bathroom essentials. Make sure that you plan it well, though, since you cannot just simply uninstall these shelves as you would a regular shelf.

7. Old kitchen items. Used cups, pans, bowls, and other kitchen items can be recycled into trendy storage tools. Want to organize your jewelry? Grab an old muffin pan and position a different kind in each cup. Use an old cup or mug as a pen holder, or a large bowl to store small toys and figurines. You can even take your old kitchen cabinets and rebuild them to make pull-out trays, creating a dresser drawer that saves space. Almost any old thing can be recycled, so do not be scared to do some experiments.
