6 Reasons To Use A Grain Milling Machine For Fresh Whole Grain Flour

By:

We can have healthy eating products for living by utilizing nutrient dense flour, freshly milled in a wheat grinder. Grains freshly milled made into fresh bread have been the staff of life despite a low carbohydrate craze. We have been blessed with a long list of whole grains we can use to create whole wheat flour.
Grain is naturally preserved in its shell or inside the bran, and all the nutrition is preserved when the grain is milled at the last possible moment. Milling wheat at home in Nutrimill grain mills for a loaf or two of bread allows for the best result. Wheat, after the milling process will lose its nutrient goodness quickly. Whole wheat grain contains many vitamins and minerals and proteins as well as high fiber content.
Below, in my opinion, are a few more reasons it makes sense to have a home grain mill to begin milling the best whole wheat flour.

1. HEALTH AND QUALITY Fresh whole wheat flour tastes better and performs better in whole grain recipes and in automatic bread makers. If you use a grain mill to prepare only the amount of flour needed, essential nutrients are preserved. Within 24 hours up to 50% of the nutrients have oxidized and in three days up to 80%. Whole grain flour includes the bran which is important for health. All-purpose flour only has four B-vitamins and little fiber.

2. EASY TO STORE Once the hull of the whole grain is broken with a wheat grinder, it will lose most of the nutritional quality and become an attraction to bugs. This will happen when grinding, flaking or rolling your grain. Grains stored in buckets tightly sealed in a cool place will last indefinitely. Always use food grade containers. These can be found in many places, check with places where food is produced: restaurants, cafes, schools or anywhere food is bought in bulk. Rinse and sterilize the containers.

3. FREE OF PRESERVATIVES AND CHEMICALS - Countless pesticides and preservatives are found in commercial flours, breads and baked goods. The name on the bag at the store tells us of just one of the problems, Bleached. Synthetic vitamins are added into flours to replace natural vitamins from the refining and milling process. Home baked goods are naturally chemical and preservative free and will provide for healthy food preparation.

4. VARIETY - When you use a grain mill for your fresh milled flour you may enjoy a wide variety of grains such as hard red wheat, hard white wheat, rye, corn, oats, rice, amaranth, spelt, quinoa, and kamut, as well as dry beans. Home grain mills may be a solution for those who are wheat sensitive or allergic. Varieties of flours are good for rotation diets, economy, nutrition, and variety in healthy eating products.

5. ECONOMICAL Fresh whole wheat flour is cheap! Compare the cost of whole grain flours from stores with the price of whole grains. Grains are usually lower in cost per pound. I understand that grain is raw and requires a milling process to become flour and this needs to be added to the cost. However, the home grain mill and the time to do the milling process, minutes, are achievable in the cost evaluation.

6. OTHER ADVANTAGES OF WHOLE GRAINS - Milling your own flour from whole grain kernels may be new to you. However, when compared to meats and dairy products, grains are the most economical food. Healthy food preparation of bread can be made for less than a dollar a loaf. Commercial equivalents usually retail for $4.00 or more. Be a part of your community supporting local farming. This could open up the door to other possibilities from your local farmers: fresh eggs, grass feed beef and poultry, who knows even wool to spin. Grains can be purchased in bulk for the best pricing if you are able to store the grain in a cool, dry place and tightly covered.
Most home bakers store their grain in plastic 5-6 gallon buckets. Grains will store for at least a year at room temperature. Flours should always be stored in the refrigerator or freezer, but be brought up to room temperature before using for baking purposes.
The fact is that home grain mills are becoming more popular every day. There are grain mills for sale at the local hardware store to the internet. Grain milling machines that are electric can be noisy, while grain mills that are hand cranked are quiet and green powered. Please remember to get healthy eating products for your family healthy food preparation from something as simple as a Nutrimill grain mill allows you to make a choice!
