6 Factors For Ceiling Fan Installation

By:

If you have decided to install a fan in your room, then while buying and installing a ceiling fan you would need to keep the following factors in mind:

1. Fan motor: Cheaper fans would have thin outer covering which increases the chances of a rattling sound when it is running. There are other sounds like buzzing and humming that can make you annoyed. So try to buy motor with larger outer covering.

2. Fan pitch: Pitch for a fan is the angle at which blades are installed with respect to the horizontal plane of the fan. Optimized pitch helps in moving the air effectively. While installing, blade should be balanced so that there is no wobbling sound when the fan is running.

3. Fan lighting: There are fans that come with built in lighting. In such cases just try to be sure that the lights are sufficient or are of sufficient luminosity to completely cover the room.

4. Fan Size: Then there are different sizes of fan available; you would need to decide the best one for your room. If you go for a size that is larger than required then it would lead to higher power consumption and if it is smaller then fan would not be able to circulate air at all places in the room. Fans come in 7 different sizes; it ranges from 32" to 56" in blade length, so decide the best one for your room.

5. Fan Mounting: While mounting a fan remember that fan should be mounted at least 8 feet above the floor; this is for safety reasons (normally the combined length of a person with her hands up would be less than 8 feet). Also, one has to have 12 inch clearance below your ceiling so that the fan blades get enough air to push down. You can adjust the clearance by varying the rod length.

Then there are reversible fans that can be used both during summers and winters, as it would push the warm air down during winters.

6. Fan Placement and wiring: A fan is placed so as to maintain air circulation in all the places. The internal connections for fan and other lights are already done during the construction activity by the electrical contractor; if it is not there you could get a electrician to do the wiring. Electrical wiring is a critical task and needs to be done with lot of safety. Wrong wiring could lead to unsafe conditions posing risk to life. The work involves wiring that runs to a source and connects to a light switch which could require cutting into the wall. Ensure that the fan is running in the right direction, wrong wiring could make fan move in opposite direction.
