5 Weight Loss Tips To Start The New Year

By:

Its 3nd January 2012 and having just gone through the whole festive season, as Im sat here writing this article, I can actually feel the extra weight on my body! The scales feel a scary prospect right now but yet, Im sure Im very much not alone with this feeling!
Its a frightening thought really exactly just how much we indulge over the Christmas & New Years period. Luckily for me though, Ive got a very demanding brain thats screaming the words Weight Loss at me right now! So with that in mind... its time for 2012 and time to get back into shape!

1)Positive Attitude

Whether its been your family suggesting you need to lose some weight or whether its been a conscious decision of yours as a New Year resolution the pre-requisite to weight loss is that youre in the right frame of mind. Without the desire and positive approach, its more than likely that youll fall at the first hurdle! So before you begin changing your life style habits, you need to ask yourself Why am I wanting to lose weight?. A psychologist professional would probably suggest writing down these reasons and use these throughout your weight loss course as a motivational aid. Some people find it useful to carry a picture of themselves around with them when theyre at the biggest again, as a motivational aid when perhaps the temptation to revert back to the old lifestyle is ever more appealing.
At the end of the day, everyone has different reasons for wanting to lose weight and therefore peoples motivation will be different. But presuming youve now in the right frame of mind, lets talk about the practical changes

2)Exercise more regularly

It sounds so obvious, but yet so many people think that weight loss is all about dieting. Without a healthy active lifestyle though, the results youll notice are far less significant. Not only that, but theres other massive health benefits that can be achieved by exercising more regularly.

Obviously this step varies per individual person, and by no means am I suggesting changing your lifestyle totally and go to the gym for 2 hours a night, 7 days a week! Be sensible set up a schedule that fits with your current lifestyle but incorporates an increase in exercise. For instance, at the turn of the New Year, theres always a large increase in new gym members who start going for a few weeks to shed their Christmas weight but then give in. Why? Because it doesnt fit into their lifestyle and its perhaps not something they actually enjoy!

Its as if people forget there are other activities out there which arent gym related for instance walking, cycling, swimming, sports etc. These can all be enjoyed with various people as well as by yourself, increasing the enjoyment and varying the exercise. Introducing such activities as the above will not seamlessly integrated into your lifestyle, but its a very positive change that could be shared with friends and in actual fact, open up a new social aspect to your life.

3)Eat more regularly but smaller portions

Do you currently have a daily food routine breakfast, lunch, dinner? Although for most, this is the traditional food schedule that was practically dictated to us since birth; its not actually that great for maintaining a healthy weight or weight loss. Try introducing a mid-morning and mid-afternoon meal into your diet plan perhaps with a healthy snack such as a portion of fruit.

I know what youre thinking - youre encouraging me to eat more! but in actual fact Im not at all. By restricting the volume of food intake at your 3 core meals and introducing the 2 new meal times, this gives the digestive system an easier task of having to digest in smaller quantities. Not only that though, but because youll feel fuller for longer youll be less tempted to snack unhealthily but youll also retain a consistent metabolism.

4)Reduce the Fat

The word Fat in itself sounds a bit crude and naughty, but at the same time, sounds so tempting! Part of a balanced diet is all about ensuring you have a reasonable amount of all of the food types; 40% carbohydrates, 30% proteins and 30% fats. You should never completely remove one of these food types from your diet but in terms of losing weight, it is important to limit the fat which the body absorbs. There are many products available on the market which are clinically proven to stop your body from ingesting the fat instead of physiologically changing how your body works.

If youre struggling with completely altering your lifestyle to accommodate eliminating a lot of fatty products from your diet, this technique has been proven to work great in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle (highlighted in Tips 1 3).

5)Drink more water

This is probably the weight loss techniques that youre less familiar with! Did you know that your body is made up of around 70% water? Really, it is! An essential part of ensuring your body continues to function as to how it was made to so ensure that youre always as hydrated as possible. 2 pints of water is the suggested amount for a reasonable consumption rate per day. By following this amount will not only increase metabolism and ensure your appetite is kept at a normal rate but also assists with the digestive system to ensure food is broken down correctly.

Weight loss is never an easy task but hopefully with the techniques Ive highlighted above - as these are the less restrictive in terms of making huge lifestyle changes and hopefully more easily adaptable into your current routines this should make losing weight more enjoyable and less of a chore!
