If you favor official recommendations, then make your way to your local Chamber of Commerce and get to their events, when your their ask other members at the events what groups they prefer. By the time you've attended your 10th event, you will have a very good sense of how they run things, what members are like, and what each group's real purpose is (which sometimes varies from what their website says.)

5. Jot down your favorites. You can stick to one group, three groups, or all groups you attended--but make sure to remember that what you get out of each group is what you give to it. Invest your valuable time in a valuable group, and you will see great results for you and your business. And you'll make some great contacts along the way, to bring your business to the next level.

The above may also define your inner attitude towards mingling and networking with people in general.
