5 Tips For Spicing Up Your Cubicle At Work

By:

Your cubicle is your home away from home. Feeling at home while you're working can make a big difference in job satisfaction and morale. If your company allows employees to decorate their cubicles, try some of these tips to spice up your work environment.

Introduce a Plant or Two
A plant in your personal work space will go a long way in improving your environment. Plants absorb toxins and chemicals in the environment, making your air cleaner and fresher. Pot two or three plants in decorative ceramic planters and place them on your desk or shelves.

Use Whimsical Office Supplies
While your office most likely has a store room for supplies such as staplers, paper clips and thumb tacks, purchasing your own supplies can add a lot of zing to your space. Sparkly staplers, multicolored clips and pins and decorative pen holders and desk organizers are available at many office supply stores and provide a unique spin on the mundane.

Show Off a Collection
Surrounding yourself with collections that have sentimental value or personal meaning will make you feel more at home in your cubicle and add a decorative touch that doubles as a conversation piece. Whether you collect frogs or globes, find a small space to devote to your collection.

Display Memorabilia
Having pictures of your friends and family or mementos of trips and activities can have a calming effect during stressful times at work. Don't just pin them on your cubicle walls. Find decorative frames that give a sense of permanence to your photographs and display them on your shelves and desk. Rotate your photos every six months so that you don't become immune to their positive effects.

Bring in Comforting Accessories
Introduce accessories into your cubicle area that smack of the comforts of home. A lamp provides incandescent light and gives your cubicle a warm, comfortable glow, while a lap blanket or fuzzy sweater draped over a chair or on a hook promises warmth on a cold morning.

Before decking out your cubicle, check with your company's policy to determine what is and isn't allowed. As always, keep it professional: no pictures of partying with your friends at a club or questionable artwork or quotes.
