5 Tips For An Amazing Neighborhood Block Party

With the summer months soon upon us, it's the perfect time to gather your neighbors and enjoy an evening of food and conversation. When you have that many people involved, it's easy to get overwhelmed. There are a lot of things to do but if you plan and work hard you can make a neighborhood party a success. Follow these simple guidelines to make it fun and enjoyable for everyone.

Delegate
You won't have a good time if you are worried about every detail of the party. Have everyone bring a side dish or dessert to share with everyone. Plan to buy the meat in bulk and then ask several of your neighbors to donate their grill for the evening. If possible and needed, also round up shade tents to provide a spot to eat that is free of the sun. A few shaded areas can make a big difference in the comfort of the party if it is hot outside.

Get Everyone Involved
You will have more success and a higher attendance if you approach everyone beforehand and ask that they help out in some way. Ask some to organize the food, others to organize the activities and some to handle the advertising and entertainment. You will need to start talking about their responsibilities months in advance and remind them from time to time but overall when many others feel an ownership in how successful the night is they will enjoy it more. Even better, it will mean less stress for you.

Plan Activities for Every Age
Sure, adults are adept at mingling and conversing with their friends, but what are the little children doing during this time? Plan activities for any age that might be at the party. Rent bounce houses or cotton candy machines for them to explore and eat as they wander around.

Look into a Roadblock
If your party is big enough and involved a large portion of your block, you may consider blocking off the street for the evening. You will need to have the consent of everyone it affects and make sure they are aware of the evening's timeline. This will allow everyone to attend the party in safety and keep a secure boundary for the night's activities.

Don't Forget the Entertainment
You may be content with everyone mingling, but it will add a greater element to have some type of entertainment during the evening. This could be blue-grass band, a soloist or a master of ceremonies who is willing to involve members of the audience in organized competitions. Be sure to consider all ages of those who will attend when you decide on entertainment choices.
