5 Things Kids Should Know About School Lockers

If your child is a pre teen and has been assigned a locker then chances are that he or she is excited. While being assigned a storage unit at school is exciting, kids need to know a few things about these units to fully utilize the given resources.

"These storage units are meant to keep essential items such as school books, notepads, pens, pencils and markers. Kids should be encouraged to use these storage units responsibly. This however does not mean that kids should not be allowed to decorate their min cupboards in schools since most schools allow kids to use a few items to decorate the insides of their storage units.

"Depending on the school"s rules and the size of the class, your child may have to share his locker with someone. While it is ideal to keep emergency supplies such as menstruation pads in girl"s lockers, kids should use their own discretion while doing so.

"Lockers should be kept organized at all times mainly because these storage units are meant to help kids store essential items. Keeping unwanted items in these units can cause kids to forget where they have kept the items they need the most which can cause them to forget to take books or other important things to class. Organizing locker units is not a hard task. Bowls, pen stands and similar items can be used to organize these units. As far as possible, your child should be given a chance to learn how to organize his things on his own since he will need to find the required things he needs when he is in school.

"Although combination locks are usually suggested for school lockers, if your child has trouble remembering the combination of the lock, then consider giving him a padlock. Remember, although these storage units are considerably safe to use, it is not advisable to keep money and valuables inside them.

"Remember, children at this age get embarrassed about a lot of things, hence forcing them to organize these units may not work. The best way to encourage your child is to explain to him the advantages of clean locker units and how an organized unit can help him get to class on time.
