5 Things I Learned From Moving 17 Times

By: Lucy Baldwin

Yes, I have actually moved 17 times - and that's just in my adult life. I guess when you're born an Army brat, you get used to moving, and you just keep doing it.

I have learned the following life lessons from all that moving.

1. Everything changes. That's part of life.

Even if you never move, things change in life. Nothing stays the same. At least when you move a lot, you start to embrace change, even look forward to it. At the very least, you will get used to change.

2. You can find good in whatever place you move to.

If you start looking for the positive things about the place you have moved to, you will be more likely to find them. I have often been afraid of not liking a place, but once I moved, I found out I was worried for nothing. I started to see the good things about the new place.

Isn't that better than just sitting around feeling sad?

3. You will find good friends in the new place.

You often lose touch with friends no matter what happens in your life. You will always need to know how to strike up new friendships. No matter what changes come up in your life, developing the habit of making friends will benefit you greatly. Just start looking and you will find friends.

4. You should not forget your existing friendships either.

You can send them emails, call them, send cards, and visit. Whatever you do, you should not let these old friendships slide.

5. Look on the bright side.

Life is what you make of it. If you get upset and look on the negative side whenever something changes, you will be missing out on a lot. Look for the positive, and you will
find it.
