5 Super Ways To Help You Learn Spanish Quickly

When you start to learn Spanish, you soon realise that you are not going to be fluent in 2 -3 months! But every one who is learning Spanish always asks: "What can I do to learn Spanish quickly?". Here's 5 easy but effective ways to help you learn Spanish as quickly as possible.

Watch news bulletins in Spanish. If you can access Spanish stations then fine but if not, pop over to YouTube and type in: "News in Spanish" or "noticias". There are lots and lots of news bulletins in Spanish there but how about this for a canny tip: type in "noticias en libertad", it will return a lot of results and many of these will have subtitles in Spanish, which I find makes it much easier to listen and understand. You could also type in "Mexican weather", or "Spanish weather forecast" as these will also help you to learn Spanish quickly.

It has to be one of the most boring aspects when learning to speak Spanish: The dreaded Verb drills. I absolutely hate doing verb drills but I know they have to be done. But how can you use them to help you learn to speak Spanish quickly? Here's what I do: I conjugate 10 verbs in as many tenses as I know. I then turn off the computer or close the book and I recite the 10 from memory. OK, if you're new to the Spanish language you might want to go for 5 verbs in the present and future tenses at first, increasing the number and the tenses as you feel more comfortable. But this tip really helps me to get the verbs drilled into my brain and it makes the drudgery of verb drills a tad more bearable.

Do you have a hobby or a pastime you enjoy doing? Why not read magazines, books, newsletters about it? For example, I am a keen amateur cook and as I enjoy Spanish food, I read Spanish cookbooks. You can also use the Internet for this too, just type in related search terms - in Spanish of course and surf around the sites. E.g. for Spanish chicken recipes I would type in: "Recetas para pollo" (recipes for chicken). Again, try You Tube as you may find Hispanic people there who share your hobby and have made a video about it.

I can't emphasise enough how important it is to speak Spanish as often as you can. The best way of course is to speak Spanish with native Spanish speakers but what if you're not living in an Hispanic country? You might find it hard to meet such people! Check out your local newspapers and visit your local library or public information offices to see if there are any language exchange classes in your area. You may find that there are Hispanic cultural centers where you can learn dance, cookery, music, crafts etc. and such activities are ideal opportunities for speaking Spanish and for broadening your knowledge of Hispanic culture.

I got this tip from an Argentinian friend of mine who learned to speak English - and he speaks it fluently - by using this tip and working in bars where English was mainly spoken. He would watch films in English with Spanish subtitles, eventually without the subtitles. You may be able to rent such films from your local DVD rental store but if not, nip over to Amazon and search their "World Cinema" category in the DVD section. Many of these films are at bargain prices and will have been reviewed. Just choose the ones that appeal to you!

You can use all of the above tips to help you learn Spanish quickly by putting them to the test. The more of the tips you use the more you'll learn to speak Spanish quickly. Give them a try and watch your Spanish improve in double quick time!
