5 Study Skills For Nursing Students

If you are going to study nursing you really need to understand that you will be STUDYING nursing. There can be little doubt that it is a degree that requires more studying than most majors will. That is not a bad thing, it means when you graduate you will be well versed in your field. Since people put their life in your hands it is a good idea to know what you are doing.

How are you going to get all this knowledge into your brain without it leaking right back out? It is not as hard as you might think but it will require you to use different study habits than you used in high school. Follow these 5 steps and you should be fine.

1.Stay Organized. This is the most important thing because if you fail to do this you end up wasting time as well as overlooking important information. Being organized will be a major part of your job after college so you need to get into this habit now.

2.Your Place. You need to have a place to study, someplace free of distractions. Don't just have it, use it. By developing this habit you brain will automatically associate the place with learning and (unconsciously) prepare to learn.

3.Remember your P's. Prior Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. Don't fall behind on your work so that you always get to class prepare. The idea of a pop quiz should not frighten you. You might be a little surprised at how often those 6 P's can help you avoid problems.

4.Study methods. Everyone is wired a little differently so a study method that works well for one person might not be as effective with someone else. Find methods that work well for you and use them.

5.Flexibility. Keep the ability to be flexible. Thing do not always work out as you plan them so you need to be able to deal with it. In you future job this will be a valuable skill. Staying organized and flexible might seem to be opposites but they are not, they are compliments. Because you are organized you are able to be flexible.

Take any one of those steps by themselves and they would not be very helpful. When used as a group, however, they become a power plan for leaning. When you study nursing, you will need it.
