You've probably heard the phrase, 'the money is in the list'. You may have read the many successes of people who have made a great deal of money with their optin mailing lists while you ponder how they succeed at it. Perhaps, all you was join a lot of other people's mailing lists.

Perhaps too, you've tried investing in hiring ghostwriters or investing in advertising in other opt-in mailing lists, or you have been building your own without converting the sales. So what's going wrong? Why do 'they' succeed and you 'fail'?

TIP #1 KNOW YOUR NICHE

Your competitors know their market thoroughly . They explored the target audience's problem and found a way to solve their target audience's problems. They start marketing a product because they decided it would be wanted, they researched it in depth first. Telling, your niche isn't likely to make them want what you're offering.

TIP #2 GAINING TRUST

Take time to get your customers trust in your messages. You're not an expert because you start up site with an opt-in list. Try writing articles to gain credibility while you build your reputation.

Joining forums and social networking sites, is a good way to gain trust and build your reputation. People will be more likely to optin to your list if they feel they know you. Put your opt-in link in your signature file.

TIP #3 USE THE RIGHT PRODUCT

Next, present a service that people want and need. You must have done your study and found it is what people want, not just what you hope they want. You must find an audience that is hungry for your product or service.

If you provide a good product that gives value to your subscribers, they are more likely to purchase from you. Sales come from diligent research. You could consider providing promotional material that can be redistributed. That's called viral marketing and there's a section on that in my blog.

TIP #4 NETWORK WITH OTHER OPT-IN LIST OWNERS

Find other opt-in mailing list owners and learn from them. Forums are a great place for this. Make friends and read a lot. People are likely to share what works well for them, and particularly what they learned doesn't work, saving you the time and effort and avoid those mistakes.

TIP #5 MAINTAIN YOUR LIST

There are some lists that explode overnight. The reality for most is that optin lists take time and money to grow. Remember to maintain the quality of your mailing list as it grows. Get help or outsource if you need assistance.
