5 Of The Best Website Applications For Content Managing

By:

There are many reasons to choose UK web hosting and each provider will have their own unique benefits. Once you have made that decision you will also have many web applications to choose from to get your site up and running. Fortunately they are very user friendly and most of them can be used by novices without coding knowledge. The following would probably be the five best CMS or content management systems.

Most popular CMSs are free and open source. Drupal is one of the oldest and was open sourced in 2001. Once all the aspects are considered it is probably one of the best web applications to use. Next in line would probably be WordPress followed by Joomla hosting, Silver Stripe and Expression Engine.

Drupal is slightly more difficult to install than the other platforms but not by much. It is also slightly more complicated to use but it offers the greatest degree of flexibility. Unlike other platforms it does not use a dedicated back end control screen but rather a control bar at the top of the page. A big advantage is that it is the most SEO friendly but on the down side it does not offer rich text editing so all formatting has to be done in HTML.

How content is managed on all of these platforms is quite individual. Drupal has all its content arranged in blocks with each being assigned to a type of content. Joomla also assigns according to content but this is also tied to a specific page location. Its admin page is also separate and has all of the functions laid out intuitively.

Because its functions are so intuitive it is the easiest to use but there are a number of limitation which you do not see on other applications. This is not an issue unless you are trying to do more advanced design though. Page creation is easy for example but linking a page to more than one menu is not easy because each item needs a unique alias. It is also one of the platforms that offers challenges for configuration.

The interface on WordPress is almost a hybrid of the previous two systems. It has the ease of use and a single admin page which can be intuitively interpreted but it offers greater functionality that Joomla. The interface can also be customized. WordPress CMS is not the same as the service for blogging which is one thing you should remember.

WordPress uses templates and has a large selection of themes that can be chosen from. What makes it easy to use is that you can select widgets and place them anywhere without having to change any code. Silver Stripe is also a very easy platform to use. It makes use of a WYSIWYG editor and drag and drop customization and has tree based navigation. It also offers simple control of security and permissions.

One of the web applications that offers ease of use and unlimited functionality is Expression Engine. It is still very easy to use but does require knowledge of PHP. Any one of these platforms would make it easy for most people to create a page once they have found UK web hosting.
