5 Nasty Symptoms Of Micromineral Overdose

By:

The microminerals are one of the lesser known groups of nutrients. They are only required in very small quantities but are essential to human health. Despite their importance, the microminerals can still be very damaging to your body in large quantities. In this article I will be discussing 5 of the nasty symptoms associated with micromineral overdose.

1) DIARRHEA:- One of the unpleasant symptoms associated with micromineral overdose is diarrhea. Whilst diarrhea does not pose a serious threat to your health in the short term, prolonged diarrhea can cause dehydration, fevers and stomach pain. Long term diarrhea can also contribute to more serious vitamin and mineral deficiencies as they get excreted from the body in the faeces.

2) HEART PROBLEMS:- The microminerals support the heart in multiple ways. They keep the arteries soft, supple and free from blockages (which ensures that the heart has a constant, regular supply of blood) whilst also preventing heart disease. However, eating too many microminerals can negate these benefits and actually damage the heart.

3) NERVOUS SYSTEM PROBLEMS:- Many of the microminerals are linked with nervous system health. They support the transmission of messages over neurons and prevent nervous system disorders such as neuralgia (a condition which leads to pain in the nerves). However, micromineral overdose can have the opposite effect by damaging the nerves and causing the nervous system disorder peripheral neuropathy (which leads to a loss of nerve function in the arms and/or legs).

4) LOSS OF APPETITE:- Another negative symptom associated with micromineral overdose is a loss of appetite. Whilst a loss of appetite is not dangerous in the short term, it can lead to more serious long term problems such as malnutrition.

5) SEXUAL PROBLEMS:- The microminerals boost sexual health by supporting the reproductive system and promoting fertility and sexual function. However, consuming excessive amounts of these nutrients can inhibit your sexual health by leading to reduced fertility and even impotence in men.

SUMMARY

The microminerals are essential for good health but it is important that you keep an eye on your consumption. Whilst the amounts in foods are generally too low to cause a micromineral overdose, certain health and fitness supplements contain high levels of these nutrients. So before you start taking any supplements check that the ingredients do not exceed any of the micromineral recommended daily allowances (RDAs). Keeping your consumption of these nutrients within the recommended levels will allow you to enjoy all the health benefits whilst avoiding the nasty micromineral overdose symptoms.
