5 Must-see Destinations While Staying In Lakes Hotels

By:

If you are planning your vacation stay in the Lakes hotels, you are planning a stay in one of England's most popular and vibrant tourist destinations. You will have a range of activities to tempt you, from hiking in the beautiful Lake country to the many interesting attractions and museums. There is enough to see and do to keep you busy for weeks, but there are 5 categories of must-see destinations to add to your "to-see" list:

1.Fells: The fells, or mountains, of Cumbria offer spectacular views and superior opportunities for hiking. The south-west section of this area boasts the Hardknott and Wrynose Passes, which are known for being particularly steep and narrow. There is also the Furness Fells (referred to by locals as the Coniston Fells), Harter Fell, the Kirkby Moor, and the Furness Peninsulas, which host the village of Barrow-in-Furness. These mountainous areas are a challenge for the most avid hikers, but for those with a more leisurely intent, they afford gorgeous views.

2.Lakes: The Lakes District is aptly named, with several lovely bodies of water, meres, and tarns affording many opportunities for boating, fishing, and simply relaxing and enjoying the views. Between the lakes and the fells, the lush beauty of this corner of England has inspired generations of artists, poets, and writers. It continues to draw thousands of tourists not just from the United Kingdom, but from all parts of the globe.

3.William Wordsworth Attractions: One such writer was William Wordsworth, Queen Victoria's poet laureate. Several of his works were inspired by the beauty of the region, particularly his poem "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud." Wordsworth spent most of his life in the area, so there are several places devoted to preserving his works and his heritage. A visit to Dove Cottage, The Wordsworth Museum and Art Gallery, and Rydal Mount should be on your must-visit list.

4.Hill Top House: Another Victorian writer who was moved by this luxuriant and peaceful part of the country was famed children's book author Beatrix Potter. From the royalties of her first book sales, Potter purchased Hill Top House, a farm in the area which remains one of the most visited sites in Cumbria. Several of Potter's famous characters were created at Hill Top, including Jemima Puddleduck, Tom Kitten, and Samuel Whiskers.

5.Abbott Hall Art Gallery: If you are interested in viewing fine art in a gorgeous setting, look no further than Abbott Hall, a home built in 1759 by Colonel George Wilson. The house was used over time as a place for the Abbot to stay when not in his own mother church of St. Mary's in York. Over several decades of changed ownership, the house fell into disrepair until it was rescued, restored and reincarnated as an art gallery by the Lake District Art Gallery Trust. It boasts a fine collection including works by John Ruskin, George Romney, 18th and 19th century watercolors, and contemporary British art.

Whether you are on a hiking holiday or simply want to holiday in the splendor of the English countryside, there is something for every tourist to see and do. Your stay in the area will be complete if you add these top 5 attractions to your list of important and beautiful things to see while on holiday.
