5 Methods To Promote Effective Communication In Your Daycare

By:

If you ask parents who have children in day care center what their complain with the center is, they would tell you it's the lack of communication. It's extremely important in any small business and especially in family daycare. In day care service, your customers are very precious commodities, even more precious than money. So it only goes to show that a parent is concerned about the level and commitment of care that they are receiving from a daycare provider. Communication is of such importance, not only does it show that you care about your clients, but also that you are a professional in the daycare industry.

Make it a point to converse briefly with the parent about the child's activities when they come to pick their child after work. Don't approach a parent with just negative things, try to start the conversation on a good note first. So in other words, start with positive comments, than negative, and always end in positive.

It is a good thing for you to know as much about the child as you can right, you should do this as soon as the parent talks to you about entering the child into the center. What do they enjoy doing on weekend, what are their concerns regarding childcare, what are they looking for? Do your best to find out their family background and their particular needs. You would be more prepared to deal with the child if you know what they need right at the beginning.

Establish your rules and guidelines from the beginning. Having a contract stating your rules and regulations establishes a boundary in your business. It's a common problem for day care owners for the parents to totally ignore the rules and regulations of the daycare. You need to do this so that there will be no questions as to what should and should not transpire within the day care.

Always give parents enough time and warning. If there's going to be some big change with the day care, make sure you give the parents enough time to prepare for the changes and make plans of their own. Many people do not do well with change so it's always important to give them more than enough time to make the appropriate changes.

Once a year do a survey in your daycare. Ask the parents if they like how the daycare is run and if they would like to recommend any changes. You're daycare would be in a better position if you are aware of the general sentiments of the parents and what they are expecting. It would be better if the parents don't know who's doing the survey, this way they will be more impartial in their assessment.
