By:

Look around. What do you see? There are people sleeping inside the train while waiting for their destination. There are people yawning on the streets while they on the way to school and work. There are people in the coffee shop grabbing coffee to wake themselves up. Anywhere you go, there always seem to be people who are sleepy.

What are the causes of being always sleepy? There are many reasons but for now, let us discuss the 5 major reasons why people feel sleepy.

One possible cause of being always sleepy is of course, sleep deprivation. When you deprive yourself of good sleep, you will definitely feel sleep the next day. People need at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep for the body to completely recover. Therefore, even if you think you have to pull an all-nighter just to finish work, be sure to let your body rest. If not, you will feel sleepy and tired the next day and you will not be able to do your work accordingly.

If sleep deprivation causes a person to feel sleepy, oversleeping does the same thing as well. Many people are wondering why they still feel sleepy sometimes even if they have slept for over 10 hours. The reason for this is because the oversleeping, like sleep deprivation, confuses the body's biological clock system. When this happens, the body will think that it has not slept enough leading the person to feel sleepy all the more.

Sleep disorders can also cause a person to feel always sleepy. One example of this is insomnia. You know you have insomnia if you find it hard to get hold of sleep at night. No matter what you do, you still cannot sleep even if you want to. Insomnia can be a serious problem especially because it disrupts the sleeping pattern of the person who has it. As a result, the body cannot get sufficient sleep and it cannot recover completely.

The fourth reason for sleepiness is sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is another sleeping disorder. It is when a person experienced sudden stoppage of breathing in the middle of sleep. This phenomenon sends emergency message to the brain to wake up the person to breathe. This often happens to people who snore. Sleep apnea induces bad quality of sleep therefore the person who experiences it usually feel sleepy afterwards.

Lastly, one major cause of being sleeping is narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is a serious sleep disorder characterized by uncontrollable or involuntary sleep. People who have this disease usually fall asleep almost anywhere without even realizing it. What makes it more serious is that it usually involves deep sleep. Some cases involve people who suddenly sleep while standing, people who sleep while talking or people who sleep while at work. Narcoleptic people should immediately consult a doctor and undergo treatments.

Mentioned above are just 5 of the most common causes of being sleepy all the time. Remember that sleep is something imperative to all of us. Never deprive yourself of sleep because doing so means depriving yourself the energy you need for the next day.
