5 Good Reasons To Love Active Volcanoes In Costa Rica

By:

Have you ever spent your vacation in Central America? There are so many countries for you to consider visiting there and surely everyone has his or her own favorite when it comes to the places to visit.

I love Costa Rica for many reasons. It is a beautiful country with great people and 110 volcanoes. That's right 110! But don't worry only 5 of them are active and not at crazy levels. So come and take a peek inside of them.

This is why the active volcanoes of Costa Rica are so popular:

Poas Volcano

This is the most popular volcano in all of Costa Rica because of the beautiful bubbling lake of its crater. It is a great day trip for those staying in the San Jose area because it's really close. You can take a tour that will take you right up to the tip to see the crater. But make sure to get there early in the morning before clouds block the view completely.

Arenal Volcano

Poas might be the most popular one but my favorite and second in the popularity is the Arenal Volcano. The only reason why this beautiful active volcano is not number one is because it's not as close to San Jose as Poas is. It gives amazing lava shows almost every night and is one of the top ten most active volcanoes in the world.

Rincon de la Vieja Volcano

This is a beautiful volcano with a funny name. If you translate it, it would be called: "Corner of the old Lady". This volcano will give you many reasons to love it; first there are hot springs, trails, waterfalls, geysers and boiling mud pools. But the one I like the most is the fresh water lake.

Irazu Volcano

Irazu volcano offers a unique attraction that I know any traveler would love: it is so tall (the tallest in Costa Rica) that on clear days you can hike up to the crater and see both oceans at once. If it's a cloudy day you can still look at the beautiful blue-green, sometimes red, mineral lake inside the volcano.

Turrialba Volcano

This one isn't that popular which makes it great for me because you won't find a lot of people so it will be you, your guide and nature. The foothills of this volcano have great paved roads that are loved by adventurers and nature lovers. There are also fantastic horseback riding tours available.
