5 Frames Of Focus

By:

Have you ever noticed that the exact issues you are thinking about present themselves to you in other ways in your life? Let me be specific: I've just had a session with a brilliant, motivated - and busy client, who detailed for me all of the things that he does in a regular day, all of the distractions, that are important parts of his life: that are in fact his life, when we looked at it.
So, are they "distractions" or are they exactly what give his life meaning. Is it a problem that his wife and the various aspects of his chosen work take his time? Or is it a matter of making an intentional choice about where he spends his time.

The key question is: is what he is doing achieving the outcomes that he wants for himself?

I'd been considering my own Focus. Appreciating the potency of focus on the conscious and unconscious mind, I realized my thoughts fell into five frames: Choice, What You Focus On You Get, Zoom (In and Out), Frame by Frame and Flexibility.
Choice

Among the many insightful things that Tony Robbins shared, was that it stands to reason when we focus on one area of life, our focus cannot be on other areas. So, if I choose to go for a walk in the morning it is possible that I won't be there when my daughter wakes. If I choose to put in the time and resources required to take my business to the next level, it means that that time and those resources are not spent with my family. If I choose to run seven day training, there will be an impact on my relationship with my partner, my daughter and my clients. At any moment we are making choices that cause our focus to be in one place rather than another - there is always a cost.

The gains need to be considered really carefully in terms of ecology. Are the main wins serving the big picture, the higher purpose, the desired outcome? If not it's time to re-evaluate and focus in such a way that the endgame is served for the greater good.

Ultimately we have the freedom to choose to shift focus at any time to align with what we want for ourselves.
Is it time to focus on your focus and tweak your choices?

What you Focus on you Get?

It is said that energy flows where the focus goes:
What are you thinking right now?
What are you worrying about?
What are you positively focusing on to bring in your life with extraordinary belief, commitment and the calm knowing that it will inevitably BE your future the way that you see it? It can't be any other way now, can it? Or can it?

The enormity of this statement, seats the results that we're achieving slap bang in our own laps, doesn't it? Ok, ok, I'll own this for me. What I have broadened this out to embrace is language. I'm aware that what I focus on I get, is reflected in the words that I choose to paint my experience and to share that experience with others. Over the weekend I took on even more, a belief that I have "I am a beacon of light and I inspire others" - no sooner had I instructed my unconscious mind accordingly, than I received an email that contained those words almost exactly, a phone call this morning from a different client who said these words, again, almost exactly - and more importantly than all: the client that has just left my al fresco coaching space said it about herself. YES! That is the magic, to remind others that their torches burn brightly by being the brightness.

Zoom out - Zoom In

Are you naturally near or far sighted, or do you have perfect 20/20 vision? Usually we have a tendency to one or the other. The point with the zoom in - zoom out focus frame is that both need attending to. Whilst focusing on what needs to be done, even the things that we don't like to do to get the job done (or delegating, whew!), it's vital to check in with the big picture. You must have a living connection with your big enough reason for doing what you're doing in the first place. This assists:

1. To remember why you're doing what you're doing in the first place and
2. To keep on top of whether what you're doing is actually moving you towards what it is you want.
Check in with yourself right now. Pick an area of major focus - that is taking most of your time and energy.
*Is it getting you closer to who you want to be in three years time?
*Is it taking care of now, ecologically?
*Who else benefits by what you're doing?
*Again, is it serving you in a congruent, aligned way?

Frame by Frame

Clear Focus is a great friend to me. When I have given myself completely to attending to something - like writing this blog - it feels in integrity: fantastic and fulfilling to know that I am giving my complete, intentional awareness to this action for this time. Yes it is time boundaries: I have given myself an hour - during which I will take no calls, not respond to emails or nip in to the kitchen for a tea nor into the pool for a swim, no matter how sparkling the water.

An approach of taking tasks "frame by frame", segment by segment, bit by bit, assists me to stave off overwhelm. If I let myself think of packing for my trip to Melbourne, the preparation work I need to do, the detail of my packages that I need to send out to Annie - and so on, I would soon enter the slippery hole to blotto-land where not much gets done and all is too much.

Flexibility

The fifth Frame of Focus is to give yourself the freedom to choose to change tack if your focus is taking you down a blind alleyway. Shift your focus to taking a bird's eye view of what you're doing. Seek the opinion of someone you trust to be honest, someone who has your best interests at heart. Pointless to select someone who will give you the answer you want to hear and not the answer that will hold you to being the most outstanding version of yourself you can be.

Now there's a great focus to have: surround yourself with those whose focus is for your good and the good of all.
It's all about you, anyhow:
So freshen your focus and fast track to the future you that delights you.
