5 Effective Jump Exercises To Attain Your Highest Vertical

By:

You're a human being, so you can't simply imagine you're a bird and fly, right? It's the same with achieving your highest vertical leap-it takes work. See, we can't actually accomplish everything that we convince ourselves we can do. What you can do, if you want your highest vertical jump, is to practice diligently these 5 jumps.

You can try out this first jump by leaping straight up using as little help from your knees and toes: just use your heels. Jump into the air using your ankles, pulling your toes upward as much as you can, keeping your heels off the ground}. Don't bend your knees on takeoff or landing, however. When you hit the ground you'll leap back up with no rest in between.

This next one is usually referred to as a box jump. If you can, use plyometric boxes to do this. Buy a landing platform like a stable box-or make one-that's as high as your vertical leap. Begin at the top of the box, jumping down and then landing like a feline. Absorb the shock with your knees, and you may even squat to do it. Keep raising the starting height, until you can't land smoothly.

The next jump is the vertical jump, and these are another classic jump to gain inches. Simply leap as high as you can, landing on a safe box or platform, then jump down again. As soon as you hit the ground you will leap back up. Don't rest in between jumps. You'll want to be able to adjust the height, increasing it as you go.

Fourth on the list is the stepping stool jump. This requires more preparation, as you'll need several heights, about 4-5 total will do. Put them in a row or semi-circle, from smallest to biggest, and simply do the vertical jump at each one, leaping down and then back up as swiftly as you can. Don't rest between jumps, either, this is supposed to burn.

This final jump combines both the vertical and box jumps. First, start off on a box that is as tall as your highest vertical currently is. When you land you will immediately follow-up with a vertical jump. With this move, you'll learn three things that aid in your highest vertical goal. First, you learn how to cope with impact. Secondly, and this is important, you learn how to explode in an immediate release of power. Third, you're training yourself to jump as high as you can. You're on your way!
