5 Contests You Can Play With Your Blog Followers

By:

One of the best features of any blog is the ability to interact with readers. The most successful bloggers use this ability to hold on to existing followers and attract new ones with fun, interactive content. Here are five contests you can host to keep your blog followers entertained.

Skills Contest. This sort of contest encourages readers to present a skill-related entry. Depending on your blog's topic, this could involve writing a short story, composing a jingle or answering a set of questions. It is very important to include all of your readers in such a contest. Do this by picking out a set of finalists from the entries and having your readers vote for the winner.

Photo Contest. Popular on commercial and promotional blogs, these contests invite readers to upload a photo of themselves using your product. In addition to being a fun, low-pressure way to get readers involved, photo contests are a great way to visually promote your product and get your logo more exposure. These contests generate reader interest and provide free publicity.

Challenge Contest. This type of contest sends your readers on a virtual scavenger hunt around your blog, website and social media pages to answer questions. If you want to engage your readers more fully in your website, this contest will do just that. Be careful, though. Leave plenty of hints and make sure that the questions are not impossibly difficult.

Stump the Author. Instead of asking your readers questions, this contest invites readers to ask you questions. Obviously, the questions involved need to be directly related to your blog's topic. This sort of contest can require a huge time commitment on your part, since answering the readers' questions may require extensive research. However, getting personal responses from you will delight your readers.

Sweepstakes. Much like the skills contest, a sweepstakes requires your readers to submit entries to the contest. In a sweepstakes, though, you select the contest winner by luck of the draw alone. This option works best for more casual blogs, and is a very easy way to get plenty of readers involved.
