5 Common Symptoms Of Inflamed Gums

By:

Inflamed gums are also known as gingivitis and can be a result of bad oral hygiene or another gum disease. Maintaining a good oral hygiene prevents most gum problems that affect three out of four adults over the age of 35. Inflammation of the gums is caused by plaque which is a buildup of food residue and bacteria that gets stuck to the outside of the teeth. If the plaque isnt removed often enough it builds up very fast on areas where the gums and the teeth have contact. These areas start to have a red color, swell and eventually bleed. If not treated gingivitis damages the tissue that supports the teeth to the jaw and as a result they start to shake and fall off.

Bleeding of the gums and many other dental problems can be caused by unbalanced feeding, which happens often when you dont get enough vitamins and minerals. Dentists recommend that you eat more natural foods and be sure to get the vitamins your gums need. Some blood disorders also can lead to bleeding of the gums when chewing hard food or when brushing your teeth. Some scientists believe that if not treated gum problems can increase the risk of a heart attack and baby miscarriage.

Although inflamed gums can be a symptom of serious gum diseases they can also be just the result of irritation of the gums from brushing your teeth too hard and damaging the skin inside your mouth. The inside if the mouth is very soft and when you brush your teeth if you put too much force you can make a tiny cut inside that is hard to heal because the surface of the skin inside is always wet. Other things that can cause this disease are bad medications, not-fitting dentures and vitamin C deficiency.

Inflamed gums include symptoms like redness, swelling, tenderness, pain and bleeding of the gums. Another very common symptom of this disease is bad breath. In addition, the gums start to lose their normal color and structure and from being strong and pink, they start becoming bright and red. Another serious symptom of inflamed gums is that even with slight irritation (like eating hard food or brushing teeth) they can begin to bleed. Other symptoms you can use, as signs you have gingivitis are if you have mouth sores or if your gums appear to be shiny.

The easiest method of treating gingivitis is to simply improve your dental hygiene. Normally this disease is just caused by bacteria that has gathered in the mouth and was left untreated. The first thing you need to do is control what you eat so that it takes care of your teeth. Most of the food that people eat is filled with sugar that is the source of bacteria in the mouth. Other products that help bacteria grow in your mouth are the carbonated drinks. This is why you need to be aware of what you are eating and drinking if you want to lower your risk of having inflamed gums. Since you cant always eat and drink sugarless products the other way you can protect yourself from gingivitis is to simply clean your mouth as much as you can. This process requires brushing your teeth at least twice a day with anti-bacterial toothpaste and flossing after that.
