5 Common Ideas For Attracting More One-way Links For Your Website

By:

Creating content that automatically brings you one way back-links is one of the main aims when it comes to getting your website found and climbing up the search engine rankings. It looks natural, which is ideally how all websites want to be linked to and as such it brings you a lot more authority in the search engines. Many real links mean your content is actually a worthwhile piece of information and the search engines will give it more consideration when placing it in the search engine results. But how do you go about creating it? Choosing the right keywords to base your content around is obviously important (provided you want people to find your website when searching those terms) and you have a few options for ensuring you get the maximum amount of links back to your page.

1. Be As In-Depth As Possible

The first sign of an authority piece of content is one that goes into as much detail as possible about any particular subject and gives you all of the information a person may want to know. Think of any Wikipedia article. They are given more authority in the search engines than any other site because they give the most up-to-date and in-depth coverage of nearly any given subject. You don't have to write in the same style but your goal is to get people to link and say "this is the page you need to look at if you want to know everything about this subject".

2. Be Controversial

You could, of course, go a different direction and write something that people are obviously not going to agree with. This sparks controversy and debate and people may be inclined to blog about it themselves and link to your original article. Controversy is something of a double-edged sword and you definitely want to be careful how and when you use it. If done wrong it can make you look very bad, and if done too often it can lead to people losing trust in anything else you have to tell them.

3. Start A Discussion

Similarly, creating content around a topic that people have a lot to say about can spark discussion by others writing about it on their own blog or simply lead to people placing a lot of comments on your blog (which is also helpful for SEO as it keeps your page updated without you doing anything). Especially if the subject is quite a popular topic at the time of posting - and you're among the first to write much about it - it can lead to a lot of people linking back and getting others to join in.

4. Make Readers Feel Something

Links can happen because you've put a quality piece of content together that teaches readers something they feel compelled to share, but they can also happen because they made the reader feel a certain way. Just as most videos on YouTube go viral because they make someone laugh, get scared, think a bit or feel inspired you can do the same with a written piece of content (or anything else you have in mind) posted on your own blog. If it resonates a particular way with the reader, then they may be compelled to give you a link back if they have a blog or at least share your page with a friend.

5. Present Something New

Above all, you should try to make sure any content you're posting out there adds something new. There is enough recycled junk out there on the Internet, and even a lot of good content that doesn't really present too many new ideas. Often presenting familiar ideas in a new way - such as with an illustrated info-graphic if you have some graphic design skill - can give you as much attention and still lead to a lot of links. Unless you are the very first to write about the subject, you will almost always have to put some interesting type of angle on it. If you combine it with a topic that's popular at the time - such as a news event, movie release or any other relevant issue - it can lead to exposure and a few extra links. More often than not, this type of content can go relatively unnoticed but every once in a while a piece of content can become wildly successful for seemingly no reason and give you a lot back-links for doing nothing more than your regular blogging activities.
