5 Best Family Attractions In Venice, Italy

Venice is a great place to visit on a family holiday which is proved by the thousands of families who visit the city every year. When travelling with young children, it is very important to keep them occupied throughout the trip and as a result planning visits to several museums is probably not a good idea. This guide provides a list of some interesting attractions in Venice that are suitable for families with children of all ages.
1. Squero di San Trovaso - The Squero di San Trovaso is a boatyard which has been in existence since the 17th century. It is a great place to visit with children since it allows one to view the making of gondolas. This boatyard is next to the famous San Trovaso Church and apart from the gondola making, there are also several beautiful scenic locations next to this boatyard which you can take your family to see.
2. Ponte dei Sospiri - Ponte dei Sospiri literally means the Bridge of Sighs and it is a very famous destination in Venice. The bridge was originally meant for prisoners who were sentenced to jail, but recently it has become a tourist attraction popular with families and romantic couples.
3. Grand Canal - No trip to Venice would be complete without a trip on the Grand Canal. This is the canal that runs through the majority of the city and has been used for public transport through the years. A gondola ride on the canal is a great way to spend a couple of hours with your family and enjoy the various sights of the city of Venice. The canal even passes by various Renaissance palaces and other notable sights in the city, making it a great tour option for families.
4. Piazza San Marco - The St. Mark's Square, or the Piazza San Marco as it is known locally, is a hub of activity in Venice as it is the location of Venice's first church and Citadel, the Basilica di San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale. The architecture in this Piazza is of much importance, being a unique combination of Islamic and European styles. This location is ideal for a day with the family for roaming through the various tourist sites and taking breaks at one of the many cafs and gelato shops in the area.
5. Bell Tower - The Bell Tower or the Campanile di San Marco is the highest building in Venice, being over 300 metres tall. The Tower offers excellent views of the city and on clear days it is even possible to see as far as the Dolomite Mountains.
