Becoming a game designer can be a fun and rewarding career. However, this career is not for everyone. It sounds great, but in reality only certain people will be successful. Here are four ways to know if you should be a game designer.

1.You like playing video and computer games. This should be a given. If you do not enjoy such games you will never enjoy creating them. However, if you do enjoy playing digital games you will get many hours of enjoyment from creating them for others to play. You will also enjoy testing the games as you create them. In addition, when you play a lot of video and computer games you fully understand what makes a good game, and what the people want in a game. This way you can create games that everyone will enjoy and that will be successful.

2.You have a good math aptitude. Those with an aptitude for math are typically better at learning computer programming languages. This is necessary in order to learn how to be a game designer. However, there are some exceptions to this rule. Some people are horrible in math and still have a great aptitude for learning computer languages. If you are unsure whether or not you would be good at computer languages, get a book from your local library and try to learn one. If it comes easily to you, you should not have any problems becoming a game designer.

3.You enjoy working with computers. It should not be a chore to work with computers. You should also have an aptitude for dealing with computers. A fast typing speed is also required, as you cannot be a game designer if it takes you hours to type up one page of code. It would simply take too long. These types of basic computer skills and required for becoming a game designer.

4.You are prepared to further your education. Even if you are a computer genius that can figure out how to design games without any outside educational instruction, no one will hire you without a degree in your field. You will need to be prepared to commit to at least four years of college, more if you want to be the top in your field. This means that you need to be both mentally and financially prepared to take on this career.
