4 Tips To For Walther P22 Owners

By:

Use only quality ammunition.
One of the leading complaints about the Walther P22 is that it's unreliable. These claims are based on the experiences people have where the pistol fails to feed rounds from the magazine reliably or sometimes not at all. The irony about the claim is that the cause for the pistol's behavior is rooted in the owner's failure to read their pistol's manual.

The Walther P22 owner's manual specifically says to "use only high velocity ammunition in your Walther P22." If you own a Walther P22, only use quality, heavy, high-velocity ammunition such as CCI Mini-Mags or Stingers and the pistol will perform perfectly and reliably.

Clean the pistol regularly.
Like other .22 caliber pistols, the P22 tends to foul quickly with powder residue. A dirty firearm of any kind will not perform as well as it should, and the P22 is no exception. If you clean your P22 at least every 500 rounds, your pistol will be sure to perform well for a long time to come.

Take firearm oil to the range with you.
Depending on what type of ammunition you're using or how many rounds you typically shoot when you go to the round, your P22 may begin to feel the effects of long range excursion. The P22's slide has a tendency to rub on the frame of the pistol causing feeding issues. Luckily, there's an easy solution to the problem.

Bring cotton cloth and pistol oil to the range with you. When the P22's performance begins to falter, remove the slide and wipe down the top of the frame rails and the inside of the slide with oil. This will help the slide to move freely over the top of the frame and will prevent further feed problems.

Watch part numbers when buying replacement magazines.
The P22 magazines only hold tens rounds, and for many owners this isn't enough. This leads many people searching for the least expensive magazines so that they can add a few extras to their collection. Be careful when buying P22 magazines. There are aftermarket manufactures that produce magazines for the P22 that suffer from constant feed problems. Even the older factory magazines that are stamped with a product number beginning with a "B" will lead to frustrating problems.

Always look for factory magazines that have a product number beginning with an "A" when buying replacement P22 magazines.
