4 Things You Need To Know About Medical Transcriptionist Salary

By:

Medical transcriptionists make a varying income based on many factors. In fact, transcriptionists can make anywhere from ten to twenty dollars per hour. How much you can earn depends on many factors, some within and some out of your control. There are five main things that determine your salary as a medical transcriptionist.

1.Where you work. This plays a major role in how much you can make. If you are working in a doctor's office you will likely make the median range of salary, about twelve to fifteen dollars per hour based on experience and training. However, if you work at home your earnings could be more or less. If you work through a firm, your earnings will likely be between ten and twelve dollars. If you work for yourself, it will depend on other factors but you will have the capacity to make the higher end of the income scale.

2.How much you work. How much work you can put out in a given period of time can make a huge difference in your salary as a medical transcriptionist, especially if you are working from home. Working from home you do not get paid an hourly salary, but instead are paid per transcription completed. If you are slow and can only complete a few transcriptions per day you are not going to make much money. However, if you are fast and can complete many transcriptions per day your earnings could be tremendous.

3.When you work. Your salary as a medical transcriptionist will depend on when you work. Most transcriptionists that work in doctors' offices will only be working part time hours, and therefore the earnings potential is much less. However, on the other hand if you work from home you could work many hours a day, at any time of the day you wish. This could make it much easier to earn a higher salary.

4.Experience. The more experience you have the more money you will be able to make. It is as simple as that. You cannot expect to start out making the highest salary possible with no experience. However, as you gain experience and prove yourself your salary can jump considerably in a very short amount of time.

It is clear to see that there are too many factors surrounding the salary of a medical transcriptionist for anyone to accurately determine their salary before they get started. You can expect to start out in the ten to fifteen dollars per hour range. Once you have more experience and skill, and you are able to put out a high volume of work per day, you will be able to earn the higher end of the pay scale.
